Our Fairfield store actually began as an idea on the beaches of southern Spain where the first owners sold exotic silks and beads to tourists and students studying overseas. That initial success inspired the opening of a store on our town square in 1973. And now after 35 years and 6 different locations we have come full circle and settled in at 48 N. Main St. with a perfect view of the Gazebo in the center of the square.
A petite treasure situated on the eastern side of its block, the center most store on Main Street.
True to its original commitment and the vision of its founders, Crest Jewel continues to offer to its many loyal customers "precious gifts of nature" from around the world. That original vision has now expanded to feature selected pieces from the many highly talented jewelers, artists, and craftsmen who are living or working in our town at this time or who have been with us in the past.
The Inspiration for our name comes from the Viveka-Chudamani (Crest-Jewel of Discrimination), a timeless vedic text authored by Shankara. Since 1973 Crest Jewel has become known the world over as the reliable solution to the question asked and answered by Shankara:
What is the most valuable thing?
A gift given at the right time.
